Dear Deborah: Why do cats knead blankets, pants and
other things? Knead Cat |
|
Dear Knead Cat: Cats knead for lots of reasons.
It's good for stretching, circulation and posture. Kneading also
gives them comfort. Kittens nursing use similar arm motions and
paw movements (claws in) to stimulate milk flow. The momma cat
will knead the ground to create a nice soft surface for her and her
kittens. Consider it an honour if your cat deems you worthy of
kneading. Teach him claws in by tossing him gently off your
lap each time he scratches you and by praising him when he kneads
gently.
